Would the following system stand a chance in the US?

A non-union workers consortium. The consortium would consist of freelance workers who offered a special skill (carpenters, computer programmers, nurses, etc...). Companies would take these people on via a signed contract. The contract can be for a month or a year … whatever makes sense to complete a job. The members of the consortium would pay their own taxes. The members would be covered under an LLC. ( there are more specifics such as insurance, unemployment, etc... but not necessary for this question).
