Why do so many people "just love" David Attenborough? (how compared to the "Crocodile Hunter"?)?

Sir David (brother of film director and actor Lord Richard Attenborough) has an extremely long and distinguished career as a naturalist broadcaster. He was at one time controller of BBC Television but returned to broadcasting and is widely respected as being highly knowledgable - and for popularising wildlife programmes when they were only really a minority interest.
